Right Mindfulness Meditation

Right Mindfulness Meditation

This 7 sessions Right Mindfulness (Sammā-Sati) Meditation Program will train you to intervene your habitual thought and behavior process, which leads to suffering and death, by being fully aware of this process and by making intentional choices based on the Buddha’s wisdom that leads to a happy and healthy life, and even the deathless.

We can’t control what comes into the mind. Our emotional state is triggered by external living environment and determined by internal maturing kamma seeds of past experiences stored in our subconscious mind. When we experience negative thoughts and emotions, we need to understand it is just some negative kamma seeds matured. Thoughts are just thoughts and that they are not “us” or “reality.” Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth. It is our mind that is interpreting what the fact and truth reveals. When we experience negative thoughts and emotions, these are simply temporary states of the mind that we experience more or less frequently throughout our lives. We shall then bring compassion to ourselves, with warmth and unconditional acceptance. Only when we can be compassionate to ourselves, we can then be compassionate to others.

This right mindfulness training aims to break the unwholesome habituated thought patterns and emotions generated from kamma of past experiences in our subconscious mind, and to establish new wholesome ones. We start with quiet observation of habituated thought patterns and emotions using the Mindfulness (Sati, awareness) strength of the mind. We then interrupt what can be an unhealthy tendency to over-identify with and stress out about these transient contents of the mind using Buddhism ethical discernment. This is what Right Mindfulness means. We then purposely cultivate and develop wholesome qualities of the mind such as patient kindness and compassion and other virtues. This process is also a purifying process for the unwholesome kamma seeds in our subconscious mind. We use selected meditation techniques to overcome specific kinds of unwholesome and negative thought patterns and emotions as well. This too will strengthen our mind. When the mind is purified, soft and calm, we will be ready for further concentration training toward Samadhi. These are the four main aspects of the Right Mindfulness meditation that are presented in this training.
